Piperita Oil 2012

Piperita (other names Rectified Piperita Oil, Mentha Piperita Oil, Peppermint Oil or Ex-Mentha Piperita) is used in cosmeceuticals, personal hygiene products, foods, and pharmaceutical products for both its flavoring and fragrance properties. More info at Wikipedia.

An unprecedented rise in Mentha Oil in recent years has taken farmers away from Piperita. This year only those farmers are cultivating Piperita, who had worked on Piperita roots. On our part we have been trying to improve this situation, by distributing free ‘KUKRAIL’ roots amongst the farmers. Though the farmers had got good price for Piperita last year but less recovery, pests and attractive price of Mentha Oil discouraged farmers to go for Piperita. We are afraid, if this trend continues then Indian Piperita crop may get skewed more.

We need to encourage cultivation of Piperita and in order to do so let us work on the following points:

• Farmers should be distributed roots, free of cost.
• Provide new and strong variety.ability to fight pest attacks.Helping farmers in achieving higher yield.

Spearmint Oil 2012

Spearmint

The production of Spearmint oil in 2012-13 has been going slow. As compared to last year 2011-12, the production of Spearmint crop will go down this year because of farmers not getting satisfactory prices for their produce. 

The main reasons are responsible for low production of spearmint in 2012-13 are:

• Diseased roots
• Unavailability of new roots
• Farmer shift towards Mentha (More Profitability of Mentha)
• Adulteration of L carvone synthetic
